The Colorado Amateur Radio Team hosts the Yaesu System Fusion / Wires-X room Colorado Link. CART created this room approximately 5 years ago and was one of the original Colorado Front Range Fusion rooms.
• What is System Fusion?
o Fusion Digital is another radio mode like FM however it is a communications mode that can transport Data and Voice. It utilized the C4FM FDMA Standard. C4FM stands for Continuous Four Level Frequency Modulation. C4FM is a type of 4FSK which is used with FDMA – Frequency Division Multiple Access.
o System Fusion uses 4 types of operating modes:
▪ V/D (Digital Narrow) – Voice+Digital or “V/D” mode.
▪ Highspeed Data – Transfer data such as images or text messages up to 9600 BPS.
▪ Analog FM – Backwards compatibility with existing FM Equipment.
▪ AMS – Automatic Mode Select.
The beauty of System Fusion is that you can connect to a Fusion repeater or utilize one of the many available hotspots. This allows you to easily connect to hundreds of “rooms” as long as you have a good internet connection. More information can be found here: http://systemfusion.yaesu.com/what-is-system-fusion/
CART also maintains and supports the System Fusion hub (HRI 200) located at Ham Radio Outlet in Denver Colorado. This allows users in the surrounding area or HRO employes to utilize System Fusion more easily. This node has been operational for several years now and can be found in Wires-X under (K0HRO-ND).
With the advancement of hotspot technology, many hotspots now have crossband technology allowing you to connect to a Wires-X with a DMR or D-Star radio.
